Do you have your own email address or do you share with your spouse?

I need to get my own account to apply for a job because Sweetie already has an account on that site tied to our 'families' email account. He suggested I use our yahoo account but it is literally HIS name and I thought it may be good to try and get 'my' name. Only because DeeDee has her real name on a web-based email and it is so easy to share it with people.

Sweetie and I have no problems with this, except he will need to remember another password.

But it made me wonder, in this day and age, how couples handle it.

So, here is a poll, lets chit-chat about email...

i have my own personal emails.

he has his.

i have gmail, so it's free. there is no reason for us to share.

if people need to email me, they email me.
if they need to email him, they email him.

if they need to email us, they email both of us.

Well I actually have two accounts. One is the one that I use when I sign up for other sites like Amazon, Facebook, etc, so that all of the spam or "alerts" go to that account. Then I have one for personal e-mails from family & friends. Dh has several accounts and I have no idea what his passwords are and he's not sharing those with me (a whole other issue that we're dealing with), and he has no desire to share an account with me

My wife and I have always had seperate email accounts. We do use mine for most family use.

I'm sure if I asked she would tell me her password, but I have not felt the need to pry.

None of the choices really fit us. I have 5 accounts: home, work, side business, a yahoo account for the dog rescue group I work with, and one for potential spam situations. DH has 3, home and two for work. He knows the passwords for the home and side business, because he may need to get into them for vital information in an emergency. I know his home e-mail for the same reason. It's the account most of the financial statements go through. But all the others we don't, because we don't have an interest in what's there. I wouldn't mind giving him my passwords, or having the password for his work accounts, but there isn't a need.

We have our own e:mail accounts, but just as a rule,we both share passwords and accounts are open to either of us at any time. The same goes with facebook.

I need an option that says I have too many for him to ever want to keep track of but I also know all of his.

I've had gads of email accounts since I was in college and they are used for different things, and I've told my husband the passwords and logins on various occasions, but he just really isn't that interested in logging into any of them, and so I don't think he remembers them at this point. I know the logins for all of his stuff because he keeps it fairly simple, and my memory just doesn't let me forget things very often, so I know passwords, his social, pretty much anything about him that I might need. He knows that all my info is written in the safe should he ever need it.

I really can't even imagine trying to share an email account. We both have our emails linked to our phones, and will email each other sometimes when we need to (I'm not allowed to text at work, but I'm allowed to email, so when I email him, he can check it on his phone at work and vice versa) We also don't share other types of online accounts. I know many couples have a joint facebook or myspace or whatever, but for us it just isn't logical. We are both normally on at the same time, sitting next to each other on our laptops, and I can't imagine having to "take turns" playing Cafe World or Mafia Wars.

We share an account.

I think I had an account of mine that I used for ebay sales, but that fell by the wayside. It was the same as our main email anyway, just a different server name on there.

Dh is not a big computer guy or online communicator, so there's no "competition" for time with the email. If he gets an email, I let him know and he deals with it.

He has his, I have mine..... we know all the passwords to each other's accounts though and our computer is in the livingroom. Everything we do online is within view of the other.

It would never occur to me to share an e-mail account. If people want to contact us both, they copy us both on the e-mail. We have separate FB accounts, too. We are individuals with different friends and different interests, even though we are married and are extremely happy in our marriage. We both have each other's passwords, but more out of convenience than a need to check up on each other.

Just FTR, we are individuals too, even though we share. We aren't getting thousands of emails per day. If we were, we'd probably have our own to keep from having to sort things.

I have one, hubby has two--work and home. We used to have just one joint email. I griped about his junk email clogging up the inbox. He sometimes would delete some of my important emails by accident. The obvious solution was for each of us to have our own email. Ironically, if his family has important stuff, they send it to me because they know I check several times a day, where dh checks only once or twice a week.

Same here. She has a couple, 1 for spam, one for ebay, one for personal communications. I have my own domain, so I generally only use 1 address on it, but I guess I could make more if I wanted. I also have several accounts through work.

we have seperate (but equal LOL) accounts and facebooks. We don't know each other's passwords either (well actually I think he knows mine since I use the same one for everything and I have given it to him to check my email when I was at work or something and couldn't check it for some reason and he wasn't working then)

Uhhh. I can't vote.

We have our own personal Gmail accounts, and I have a Yahoo account. We don't know each other's passwords. We've just never gotten around to sharing them.

(I haven't read any of the other posts.)

Edit: OK, read the other posts. I'm not alone!

I have many emails, one personal and the rest are work related. Even have 2 that are used for buying stuff on line... sole purpose for those are to catch spam and "marketing" emails I never want nor read. Wife has her own work and personal emails.

I have several accounts, too many to keep track of.

DW has several as well. I use the same pw on most of mine and DW knows what it is. (but not the work related ones - it is a federal offence for either of us to know each others pws) I do not know her personal one at all.

We both have Noaa.gov accounts
We both USED to have enterinfo.com accounts (work) but I am no longer a contractor so I lost that one in 08. DW still has hers

We both have personal accounts with aim.com. I have 2 actually as I dumped all my old enterinfo emails into one when I lost that one.

I also have comcast.net, yahoo.com and email.com accounts.
