Hoppy Wants Me to Preach His Funeral - 11/19/2008 4:50:46 PM

I went to see "Hoppy" today. He is an 81 year old Navy Veteran of WWII, and is dying of cancer. He called me, and wants me to preach on his funeral. I sat there and listened while he recalled various episodes from his long and storied life. He is a man of short stature but has a big heart.
He told of growing up in North Dakota, and enlisting in the Navy at the age of 17. As he was talking, I noticed a far away look in his eyes, as the memories flooded his soul. He talked of his departed wife (she passed three years ago) and their marriage that lasted 53 years). He had been planning his funeral, and showed me what all he desired, who the pallbearers would be, and where the service would be. He was proud of his six year Navy service, and ordered a uniform to be buried in.
I saluted him, thanked him for his service, and then prayed for him. I prayed the Lord would give him peace and rest for his weary soul. As I prayed, ole "Hoppy" began to cry, and the presence of the Lord came down. I know he will soon be in the arms of Jesus.
He has no children of his own, but has two stepchildren, and a brother and sister that are still living.
"Hoppy" is a wise man because he knows that this world is not our permanent home.
So many WWII veterans are going. If you know one, tell them thanks for their service. Say a little prayer for Hoppy.

Lord I lift up hoppy to you
I pray Lord you will give him comfort and peace
Keep him in your hand Lord
Help him to be reassured you are right there in his midst
Bless him Lord with your tender mercy and grace.
Thank You Lord that hoppy knows he will soon be with you.
Thank You for all you are helping him through

Lord I lift up hoopy to you today
I pray Lord you will give him comfort and peace.
I pray those caring for him will be compassionate and caring.
Lord help hoppy to be assured you are with him.
I pray your love,mercy and grace will cover him
Lord thank you for all you are doing for hoppy
Thank you for the encouragement and friendship walker is to him
Be with hoppy and his loved ones as they go through this time.
