That's how I shop, period, but this year I'm probably going with some Oxfam gifts.

The exception being books.

Another favourite gift resource is etsy.com.

For a tree.... I don't want a used model though.

I want a used Christmas present.

It's THOUGHT that counts, so something from a thrift store is every bit as important, special, and meaningful as something brand new (esp. when that brand new thing is probably made in China and worth 250% less than what it was bought for ).

Miasma - Thank you for these links!

Wow! I have never heard of this; what a truly wonderful thing they're doing.

As to what people give me for gifts . . .

I would prefer that people not give me Christmas gifts.

If someone wants to give me a gift, I would prefer they do it on my birthday or spontaneously throughout the year.

As to the gift being previously used or not, that part I don't mind . . . as long as the gift-giver puts personal thought into what they give me; i.e., the gift matches me, my likes and my interests. That's the biggest complaint I have about mass gift-giving and re-gifting . . . often there's no personal thought put into it. I'm vain enough to say, "Yes, if you give me a gift, please, at least make sure that what you're giving me is something that will have meaning to me." Otherwise, it just seems kinda like an empty gesture.

However, I'm really quite intrigued with the links that Miasma provided above, and would be thrilled if someone gifted me in that manner; no matter the occasion.

As to the OP, I try to shop green as much as I can.
However, I don't do generally do Christmas shopping; so it's kinda a moot point for me.

I shop green every Christmas. I pay with cash.

As to buying used/recyled/etc, I only do that when it makes sense (like cars). Buying "green" for the sake of buying green is like buying something only because it's on sale

I didn't this year, but as soon as I get a bigger place, I am going to get a huge pot and plant a tree and keep it as my Christmas tree! You can't beat a live christmas tree!

My mom used to use pictures we colored as wrapping paper for other family member's gifts (grandparents etc). I gave my brother cash this year. Does that count as being green this Christmas?

I've gotten presents wrapped in comics before and thought it was cool.
