Question for the masses in this thread here. Any and all input is appreciated.

It doesn't matter. Your withholding is going to be done under your SS number. I'd do the married name.

Let me rephrase that - YOU should do the married name.

I'll just stay as I are.

So do I check the box that says, "name is different from Social Security Card" even though I'm in the process of changing my card?

I posted over there, but I'll post it here as well, Christine . . . basically, I have no idea.

I would ask someone in the HR about your name being different from your SS card.

Hey y'all . . .

I don't know if I have a prayer request, a mild rant or what. LOL

I kinda figured it would happen eventually, and I thought I was prepared for it . . .

I ran into someone a while ago, and she immediately started asking nosey questions about CS.

I tried to subtly deflect her questions and change the topic, but that didn't work.

So . . . since being polite didn't work, I smiled at her and told her "that" was a private matter, and that I really didn't want to talk about it. I started to say goodbye . . .

. . . but, she then changed the subject . . . to other nosey questions; the subjects of which are, again, not any of her business.

So I took a deep breath, smiled at her, said goodbye and walked away.

I have no qualms about what I did; my personal business is just that; not anyone else's. I don't have to answer to anyone nor do I have to explain anything to anyone - unless I specifically choose to do so.

But, I am a bit surprised at my reaction. My heart sunk when she asked the first question.

Certain people are probably always going to be nosey gossips. And that's really their burden to carry; not mine.

I spent all of last year working through some things with Our Lord; and that was definitely one of them.

I guess I do have a prayer request, afterall.

Please pray that I won't let people get to me; I don't want to live my life based on how goofy busy-bodies live their lives.

I will pray for you. I think you handled it very well.

I'm trying to think of quick, appropriate but to-the-point responses you could give.

"One thing I know for certain- CS wouldn't want me to have to deal with difficult conversations like this, so please bear with me as I don't answer your questions."

But with certain people, it won't matter what you say. I'm sorry that woman treated you that way.

Some people wouldn't know a polite change of subject if it was written in big red letters. They need a verbal slap up the side of the head. Like--I really do not care to discuss this with you. That should do it--it may hurt their feelings--which is kinda odd since they have no respect for the feelings of others.

I think you handled it very well--much nicer then I would have--After all I am the DivaBrat.

I've never been one to be very... umm... subtle. There are people that ask me about my experiences in combat, and I say, "I'd rather not discuss that." Anything else gets met with that same statement. After that's been proven not to work, I say, "If you consider me a friend you won't be bringing up a topic that so obviously makes me uncomfortable. If you continue, I'm going to have to wonder if you consider me a friend at all."

That's just it, James. In our minds, friends don't even think to do that.

In my particular case this afternoon, this woman is not what I would consider a friend; I simply know who she is.

{{{Cranky}}}, {{{DivaB}}} and {{{James}}} . . . thank you all so much.

In my imagined ideal world, no one would ever even think of asking nosey, insensitive and inappropriate questions.

But then, in the real world when they do, I'm always a bit taken aback.
And, then I have to quickly work through this conflict I have with myself that yes, I do have a right to establish boundaries and that no, it isn't rude to do so.

I tell people this all the time (about setting boundaries) . . . because I really do believe it.
But sometimes, when it's up-close and personal, it catches me off guard and I have to remember to remind myself of that very philosophy.

Oh Bill, I'm so sorry.

Good answer Cranky.

Sharon-Marie, I think you handled it well. I also hope and believe it will get easier with time (if indeed it does happen again). It's the first time that's the hardest. You know it will be coming but you never know when. Now it's over and you will be more prepared. Does that make sense?

I am still sick as a dog. I got sick the first part of October, Linz and I went to the dr the same day, she cleared up after a week but here I am, hanging onto it. I have some sort of sinus thing but the cough is really really bad, so bad my chest hurts from it. They did a chest xray too to see if I have pneumonia or something. I told Linz she either couldn't go to play practice tonight or would have to find a ride, as I'm just too sick to drive and wanted to take my medicine, which the dr said would knock me out. (I'm still waiting for that to happen!) But I'm sure it's affected me enough I shouldn't drive. The house is a pit but I just don't care. I'll deal with it tomorrow.

Bill, what's wrong with your car that you had to have it towed?
I'm waiting to find that out. It wouldn't start yesterday morning. Luckily, I have my father's pickup to use temporarily.

I am glad that you have other transportation. I hope your car can be repaired quickly and inexpensively.

Bill... Praying for you.

SharMar, when I'm not sure what to do or think about something, I sometimes ask myself what I would tell a friend if they were experiencing the same thing. I find I'm much more forgiving of my friends than I am myself, and usually give them much better advice than I would follow on my own. I don't know if any of that even made sense. My brain is foggy tonight.

Kath, yes it does. When I lived in Jackson before last year, I was being bombarded by nosey gossips. It was really overwhelming. But today, was the first time since I've been back that I have experienced it. So yes, I'm hoping that I'll be more prepared for when it happens again . . . and I hope the timing isn't in the near future.

{{{Kath}}} It's almost been 6 weeks that you've been sick with this! That's such a long time.

I'm praying for a complete and quick recovery.

Hey Foggy Brain!

Yes, it does make sense.

And if the situation this afternoon had happened to a friend of mine, I would probably encourage her / him to protect themselves with good, solid boundaries and to not get guilt-ridden over it.

Thank you for the reminder.

I'm debating on whether to go and try to eat something. Tummy has been upset for 2 days and I've eaten very little. I'm starting to feel a little dry.

Tried that earlier and it made me feel very sick.
Thinking about perhaps a greasy cheeseburger --- just kidding!!! Perhaps some toast and tea.

Thank you Sharon-Marie! It's the cough that is really getting to me. I am hoping this medicine will help. It's got both the cough suppressant in it and hydrocodone (sp).

Glad it made sense, SharMar. I've been saying some funny things today that sounded right to me. I'm blaming it on leftover anesthesia.

((((((((((((((((((((((((Kath)))))))))))))))))))))))))) Mmmmm...hydrocodone! LOL That's what I have right now too. I try to only take it at night though. These children would tear the house down around me if I slept all day.

I imagine so!

I don't think it is affecting (effecting?) me very much, I don't feel weird. I was on Lortabs though for my back so maybe it's not going to mess with me. I need to call walgreens to find out if I can take the muscle relaxer with this cough medicine though. I don't want some weird reaction.
