I've been struggling. Even with sticking to my diet I wasn't losing weight. That makes it really hard to stick with it. For the past 2 months I've been stuck on the same 3-4 pounds. Last Friday I went off the deep end and gave in to a craving for Taco Bell. Then Saturday AM I gave in and ate a huge biscuit with jelly. Another day last week I ate garlic bread. Plus, I've been eating popcorn. Last Monday morning it was clear that I had gained 2 pounds rather than just fluctuating between 3-4 pounds.

Since then I've been trying really hard to stick to the diet. My work place has been flooded with cookies. I've resisted almost to the point of tears. I have not eaten any. Praise God. This morning for the first time in weeks my ketone level wasn't negative or even trace. It was "small". Yeah! And, I'm back down to the lowest of the 3 pounds I've been fluctuating with.

I weighed in this morning at 259. I'm setting a goal to be under 250 by Christmas.

Last night I told my husband that I was not going to make any Christmas cookies this year and I was not going to participate in any cookie exchanges because I can't eat them and he has no business eating them either. (Last year the women's group had a cookie exchange.) My hubby said, "Why not? You can just give the cookies away." I asked him if he had any idea how hard that is? He said if he could do it I could do it. My response: "Who ate cookies today?" The answer: he did. I'll plan to make cookies Christmas 2009.

Doing ok. I lost a 1.5 pounds too, did toning yesterday and ran this morning. I think I need to eat more protein, I've been getting lightheaded. It's hard to eat enough, or often enough when you have a newborn and a toddler. Just seems like there is always something else to do before I put something in my mouth. I know from loosing weight last time that not eating enough resulted in not loosing any weight. Grump. Somehow I gotta get more good calories in. I've been grabbing fruit for snacks, maybe more walnuts or something.

Well, I'm off to a good start. I lost one little measily pound, but it's better than none. I'm at 202 1/2 and want to be at 190 lbs. or less by December 31, 2008, so I better get crackin' er, I mean exercising!

I lost a total of 14 pounds in October, so I'm off to a good start too. I know it will slow down now, but I already feel sooo much better, am off my blood pressure medication, and had to buy some new clothes!

Here's to a great November for all of us!

Thanks! That's what really got me getting serious. I have always had below normal blood pressure. It would occasionally rise if I got really sick(I'm prone to bronchitis and pneuomnia), but then go back down when I got better. Last year, it took a sharp spike and never came back down. That really scared me straight...lol.

I was so hungry last night after dinner even though I ate a good dinner. I've been hungry a lot lately. Last night I wanted a bowl of cereal so bad. Unfortunately, there wasn't any in the house so I ate some tortilla chips instead. Then this morning I was craving oatmeal for breakfast. So, after voting I went to Bob Evans and had oatmeal, eggs and turkey sausage.

Given the frequency that this is happening I've decided to take a few days to a week off of dieting. I'm hoping that perhaps a few days of eating more normally will help me start over and not have so much hunger and cravings for another 6 months.

Well... I moved! So over the past 5-6 days, I have been somewhat careful about what I eat and have been trying to exercise, but haven't had much time. Moving is a lot of exercise that I didn't even count, though- carrying boxes, cleaning, etc. It has also been stressful and I have done a lot of grab and go, rather than mindful, eating. I know at least two of those days I ate 2-3 brownies. So, I haven't lost any weight, but I was happy that I didn't gain any!

Now my goal is to establish a new routine... I used to have to walk 20 mins to and from the bus stop, before & after work. Now the bus stop is about 30 stpes from my door! So, I am thinking that I will just take a walk or ride the exercise bike each morning and evening, then continue with my 30 minutes of walking while at work on my lunch break. The town I am in is a WONDERFUL place for walking. It is safe, clean, beautiful. I can walk to a river, a nature park, a little "village," several park/playground areas, and along tree-lined streets. There is also a Y within walking distance, but we are waiting a few paychecks for that.

We don't have a car, so that may help get us walking a little more, too.

Shopping is going to be a challenge, as we will have to carefully plan. There won't be any quick trips to the grocery store, since there isn't one we can walk to! My mom & ds will be taking us every couple of weeks. And if I need something little, I can grab it at the store across from work, but will have to carry it on the bus.

All of you are doing great!!
I was impressed that we are all thinking how to improve our eating
habits. Losing weight is great too! But we need to be thinking
about what we eat, how exercise will help us reach our goal.

So thrilled to hear that we are talking and not giving up!!

I have not established a pattern to help me lose weight. I have
been thinking is this cup of ice cream worth it? I was disappointed
with myself when I gained what I had recently lost. So I was deter-
mined that I would start again and not yield to my temptations. Then
my dh suggested that we have a pizza, I firmly and nicely told him
that I am determined to reach my goal. And he agreed and we ate
healthy low-cal foods!!

Now, I am slowly losing my weight and trying to faithful walk at least 20-to 60 minutes everyday.

Reach for our goal whatever it takes!!

I did terrible last night, just eating every sweet thing in sight, because I was so upset and afraid of the effects of McCain losing the election. Today I'm doing somewhat better, though, since I feel more positive and so I'm making better food choices for the most part.

Betty, you're right, sometimes thinking about things is a huge step in the right direction.

Sometimes, too, the victory isn't always in the actual weight loss, or being perfect on our plan, but in the small changes we are able to make. Halloween night, we had a huge tub of candy sitting around all day waiting to take to our church that evening. I ended up eating three small tootsie rolls over the course of the day. My normal through pattern would have been "oh great, I blew it, so I may as well eat what I want for today", then I would have eaten a handful more, and probably a lot of other junk too! Instead of feeling like I failed for eating those three pieces of candy, I stopped there, wrote down the calories in my log book, and got right back on my plan. I actually felt great instead of like I failed. I stopped with just a few, and I chose the lower calorie/fat versions of candy instead of going for the Reeses. To me, those small victories mean a lot. It gave me confidence that maybe I really can grasp this moderation concept after all!

I had a nice surprise yesterday. I got out my long jeans for the first time since the beginning of summer. It just now turned cold enough to need them instead of capris. I pulled them on and they were huge! I could grab handfuls of fabric in the butt and thigh area. At first I just stood there wondering what had happened, then realized they were too big! lol! It had been awhile since that had happened! So, today, I went jeans shopping...2 sizes smaller than what I bought last year

I'm not doing well. I'm eating candy bars and ice cream bars, even though eating sugar makes me feel depressed. I guess I'm still upset about yesterday.

I traveled the past two days and ate really bad things. It's hard to ENJOY food when you have a very tired 3yr old and holding a 5 week old. I am running tonight.

One thing that helped me last time I lost weight was to tell myself "Nothing tastes as good as being thin feels" And having been 'thin' for me at least, that's true!! I need to remember that!

Bless your heart!
We are here for you!
You have been busy moving and etc.
Try to take some baby steps to move you in the right direction and see
if you can do that. It may sound silly or too easy but it is a step in the right direction.

We love you and we will be praying for you.

We all know how good the taste of candy bars and ice cream!

You can do it!!
Don't be too hard on your self. We all are struggling in our way.

karlie = we want to thank you for sharing your inspiring successful story and hopefully we can all use your experience to help us think about what you have said. A good indicator is not always what the scales show but those tight clothes that are baggy now!! Thanks!

This would be a great motto for us to use!!

Actually, I'm not the one that was moving. I DO need to move more often though, maybe get out and walk at the gym or something tomorrow.

I was upset about McCain losing the election and my irrational fears of the future of our country under Obama's leadership.

Thank you for your prayers. I'm feeling better right now, just trying to get up to 3000 posts before going to bed tonight.

Melissa!! Remember GOD is in control. Obama has not been given free reign over the future of our country, we have a governemnt of checks and balances and we will all be FINE. The best thing to combat fear/anxiety is not peace/relaxation, as we often think and attempt, but POWER. Learning to look at a situation and figure out what you have no power over and let it go, but then focus on what you DO have power over really helps.

(I'm not anti-Obama, but I understand irrational fears!) You have no control over the fact that Obama is going to be president. It's just a fact. Think about what you CAN control.

I'm the one who moved! I am starting to get back into a routine. Took a walk yesterday at work and rode the exercise bike in the evening. Rode it FAST, too! Because I was ANGRY and it helps me to work through my emotions.

Here's the thing about eating for stress relief. It does help for the minutes you are doing it... but after you feel WORSE from both the foods (the salt, sugar, fat that are in those foods we crave in stress) AND from guilt. BUT a perfect substitute is EXERCISE!! When you start feeling upset, take a walk, say a prayer. This works because the exercise releases endorphins that combat your bad feelings and you feel proud of yourself for walking/resisting temptations!

I prefer "Nothing tastes as good as being healthy feels."

I lost another pound!

Tara

Sorry, Melissa that I got you mixed-up with another poster (Tara).

I remember, when I watched Adele Davis on a TV show and she said that
she could help us with chocolate craving, then they had a commercial and I thought, I must see this for my self. So after the commercial Adele said that
every time you have a craving for chocolate take a teaspoon of honey. It worked for me. Yes, I still like chocolate!

Hello,

Can I join you guys?

I am starting back into exercising and i need some accountablity.

Last week was my first change in habit. Not snacking after 7pm. I did OK and did my work out 3 times.

This week I added, eat breakfast and get up and exercise. I am not working, so I am trying to get up and do something in the morning instead of sitting around doing nothing! And I have gotten to the gym 3 times this week. 2 running days and 1 weight lifting. My food still needs something.

I lost last year on a low carb diet, but the one I did was very restrictive and when I got off I totally binged. So I am thinking of doing South Beach. Does anyone have any experience with that? Does it work? I think I will have to do something like that forever, as I love carbs and my body just does not digest them, they just go to my butt and thighs.
