I don't think New Zealand and Australia have ever sold canned pumpkin that I've known of.

I don't think American's would know how to make pumpkin pie without using canned soup.

I don't personally care for pumpkin pie. However, one year I decided to make it from scratch. The people I gave it to wanted know what my secret was. I gave them the recipe and most of them decided that it wasn't worth the effort.

Tastes real close to Pumpkin Pie.

I do like sweet potato pie, but it's not on my list of favorites.

Right now I think I might be pmsing because the only thing on my favorites list right now is a hot bath (can't take one while doing laundry) and CHOCOLATE!

Oddly enough, I don't like sweet potato. It tastes too sweet for me.

My friend Heather has invited us over for Thanksgiving ... turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes. I'm supposed to bring a sugar free pie.

What's on my mind? MY HUSBAND! He comes home from Iraq on Monday ... yay. I just made reservations for three days at the coast (Monterey, California) Nov 12-13-14. Then there's Thanksgiving ... then we're going to Hawaii Dec 2-11, 2008.

By the way, canned pumpkin (not pumpkin pie filler, just canned pumpkin) is an awesomely healthy side dish or dessert ... just add some cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice and (for me) artifcial sweetener. Seriously, it's the BEST tasting vegetable EVER! Don't wait for Thanksgiving ... eat it all winter! Great vitamins and antioxidants.

You can also take chocolate cake mix and combine it with a can of pumpkin and bake it in muffin tins. The pumpkin replaces the egg and oil and water (and whatever else is called for). Very healthy.

I think the first time I voted was Bush vs. Dukakis? I was leaning left back then but still voted for Bush. I wasn't too impressed with the alternative. Then I voted for Clinton twice (what was I THINKING?) and for Gore. It's funny though...during the election night coverage I started regretting it big time and ended up praying that Bush would win. I wonder if it was some kind of a premonition. I know I was so thankful that Gore wasn't our president after 9/11.

Well, I've got to go heat up supper for the kids. I have school tomorrow but no students. It's parent conferences. I have the complainingest bunch of parents this year. It's driving me batty. I'm hoping that most (I won't waste time hoping for all) of the complainers show up tomorrow and speak to ME about their concerns. But I'm not holding my breath though. {sigh}

Have a nice day, ladies.

Hello - I don't think I've visited here before. I'll take a refill on the coffee and start a new pot but I'll be un-American and skip that pumpkin pie.

I am intrigued by the soup idea though. We made squash soup a few weeks ago. The real recipe was 5 cups butternut, 1 cup potato, cream and a blender. I used equal parts because my DeeDee doesn't like squash and I will not blend soup and didn't have any cream. If I had to do it again I'd...

Brown garlic & onion in some butter in the stockpot. Add rosemary and thyme. Add equal parts squash and potatos and chicken broth to cover. Simmer until veggies are softened. Mash or run thru the ricer. Add chopped ham (I bought that prepacked stuff) YUMMY!

Back to work...

I loooove pumpkin pie. Warm with a dollop of cool whip on it. Mmmm!!

I make a good sweet potato casserole. It's very simple and last year was the first time I made it but since I saw where I messed it up, I expect nothing but perfection this year!

I have the joys of going to my brother's house and even though he's working all week, (a new member of Illinois' finest!) it will be good to catch up with his family.

Let's see...when we do Thanksgiving we have fried turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, cranberry sauce (the kind that sloshes right of the can and you just slice it...LOL), Watergate salad, corn, rolls, sweet potatoes, and then pumpkin, pecan, banana cream, and key lime pies.

The squirrels in our yard really like eating other people's jack o lantern pumpkins ... then leaving the rinds all over OUR yard.

Suppose they are making pie?

Okay, this is a weird question, but I'm not sure what to do/think here.

One of my friends and I planned to go to lunch today around 2pm. I texted/called her last night to see what time we were going and if we were meeting there or going together from campus. Sometimes when she does that (doesn't answer anything) she'll show; sometimes not. Once I waited around for a few hours, called and texted her to see if she was coming... but I didn't hear from her til that night. She was sick (she has bad cycles that she has to be medicated for), but she won't really always tell you when she sees she's going to be too sick to go. A few times she's called me before and told me, but not always.... I'm kinda scared to get up and get ready later if there's this chance she might not even show up.

Tamara - I hate that when people do that! When I run across people like that, I either invite them to my house or invite a third person along. That way, if they don't show, it's not a total loss.

That sounds like a good idea. Either that or just go, wait a predetermined amount of time, and then leave. If she asks where you were just tell her you were there on time, waited XX minutes, and then went about your day.

We went to church this morning and then were lazy around the house the rest of the time. We're watching an old Eddie Murphy movie...Coming to America. I've never seen it before. It's funny. I didn't realize how many favorite actors/actresses of mine were in it. I'd have watched it a lot sooner.

Have a nice day, ladies. Enjoy your pumpkin pie.

Well, she didn't show, didn't tell me she wasn't showing, and I haven't heard a thing from her. Unless she's in the hospital or something happened unexpectedly, I think that's so very rude. And she's done this to me before (and I suspect to others). Bad thing is, she never seems sorry when she does that to someone. Ugh.

My, what a mess! That poor woman. I'm praying for her.

Lazy day here. I'm getting hungry anyway but then I read someone's menu for Thanksgiving. Thanks a lot! Now I have to go reheat leftovers. Not so much fun. LOL

The guard in our building called DH last night and said I had a bulging tire. {sigh} So he has to fix that after work so I can get to and from school tomorrow. At least he saw it while I was parked. Last time that happened it blew out on me on the highway on the way to open house at my school. Not fun!

Have a nice day, ladies.

What's everybody doing this weekend?

I won't ask what Jennifer's doing today. I'm pretty sure that it's her wedding day today.

It is....it's November 8, 2008 here which is Jennifer's wedding day. CONGRATULATIONS!!! Have a very blessed day and enjoy the honeymoon!!!

We have a ladies soup luncheon where we're packing care packages for our college students this afternoon. Other than that I don't have much planned other than the norm of church, cleaning, grading papers, making lesson plans, doing homework for my college class, etc.

How about you Trish? (although it's getting late in the day today over in Aus). We're just starting our day & haven't even had breakfast yet.
