Hazel, it sounds like your husband really wants you to come. In that situation, I'd do whatever I had to do to go. You can find arrangements for the kids. They're plenty old enough to be left. It could be a wonderful time for your marriage!

too bad we all don't live closer.

His- I don't belong to our local homeschooling group anymore either, and there aren't many folks around here that I'd leave my kids with.

Hazel, what about Cindy's family? Not sure how far away they are from you, but I know you've met up out there too. I'm sure Cindy would be able to handle them <insert whip cracking smilie here>. Maybe you should ask her...oh wait, I think I just did. Cindy, don't be mad at me...just think of the farm work you could get done with 4 extra slaves children.

His, do you have family that could come to your house to stay with them? If I was in your shoes... I'd find a way!

I am chilled. I was outside painting today. It was suppose to be 50 degrees, but I don't think it was. The wind felt like a winter wind!

My computer is working nice and fast now... ya wanna know why?? My Dh thought I deserved a nice computer for homeschool and my Kodak pictures. He went and bought me one of those e-machines at Walmart.

When your Dhs are old and retired, make sure you have lots of projects for them to do. D

lol...when my Grandpa retired my Grandma told him that he may have retired but she didn't (lol, she is a housewife)...so every day she still kicks him out sometime to do something in his workshop or with their clubs or something. He is a carpenter so he loves to work in his shop. He has also been an active part of the Shriners since my aunt needed their help back in the 50's when she was a baby, so after he retired he just started doing more with them. When he is home (they spend the winter in FL) he does a six hour one way drive several times a month with people...taking them to the nearest Shriners hosp.

I love FF...so much so that I haven't used IE in years!!!

yay for the new computer Annie!!!!!!!!

I pm'd this info to Judii, but I figure with all the talk here, I'll post it for all of you. In lieu of a passport for Canada-US travel, you can get a Nexus pass. It allows you to cross back and forth whenever you'd like, and without hassle. You are essentially pre-screened and approved. It is $50 per adult, good for 5 years. Kids 16 & under are free. It is mostly for land and water travel, but apparently they can also be used for air travel, BUT you need to do your screening interview at very select sights, as they require a scan of your irises for the document if you are wanting to use it for flight. You can find the info (and application) HERE

When we left Alaska, we drove down through Canada. This was before a passport was needed. It was pretty easy to get out of the US (we needed photo IDs and that was pretty much it). I was very afraid that once we got to the other border (to go back into the US), they would not let us back in! We did not have any problems, but it was a strange thought...

Same here! And all the CW buttons do work with Firefox.

I agree with Donna and the others His-if you can swing it, go. At least try for one trip.

Annie,
We have that winter wind here again. Today was gorgeous-63 and sunny. We come out of dance and although the temp was 52, the cold, biting north wind was blowing. I was very glad I insisted that my blessing have a jacket and I was glad I had mine too cause we needed them.

The temp tomorrow is supposed to be 46 but with the wind blowing the real feel will be 36.

My blessing can now shoot baskets-with a normal size basketball hoop, not a kid size one. She was even able to get one in the basket doing it overhand! She was so excited she couldn't wait to show Daddy when he came home. Once she got the hang of it she would get one in out of every three-and I had her switch to underhand so she would not get worn out.

She does stand close to the basket but I could not do that at her age. Dh says he could not even do that now, lol!

How fun that your blessing is learning to shoot hoops! That's really great. My dd is eleven. We have a basketball hoop in our driveway. She is pretty good at shooting hoops. It surprises me. She is not very tall, but she has a knack for it. I should encourage that more.

We almost got stuck in Canada several years ago. We were at Niagra Falls and decided to cross the Rainbow Bridge and see the Canadian Falls. Getting OUT of the US is no big deal. You go through a gate and walk across a bridge. We all got into Canada on dh's drivers licence--I had left my purse in the car and the kids didn't have any ID. We wandered around the falls, had some ice cream and headed back over the Rainbow Bridge. Getting back into the US was not easy!!! Dh was no problem, since he had ID. They questioned the kids (who are these people you are with?) and asked me a whole lot of questions--parent's birthplace, mom's maiden name, etc. I asked if dh could go to the car to get my ID but they said he had to get out of there. It was quite scary!!!

I am sick today. Yesterday's running nose has turned into a head cold. Oh well. I skipped this morning's workouts. I probably could have done them, but since it's so cold, I didn't think it was wise. So, I'll go grocery shopping and get the oil changed. Hopefully I'll be up for a run tomorrow.

Hazel, if you had your ID, it would have been no problem? I ask because Brian and I are thinking of going to Niagara Falls for our anniversary in January. Neither of us have passports and if we have to get a passport card to go there, we won't go. License and birth certificate should be enough until June, right? And for Esther? Is the birth certificate enough or not?

I have the same problem Cynthia! I just can't get to sleep when he isn't here.

Cindy - you're right on the cost for a passport! We had to get one for ds this summer for the mission trip he went on to Mexico. But - they were about to start some sort of card thing that you could use if you were driving into Mexico or Canada. Here I found the info on it: Passport Card. It is a lot cheaper! $35 - $45 (for 1st time applicants) and $20 if you already have a passport. Not sure if this is the same as the Nexus pass that Kara mentioned or not.

His - I'll weigh in on the GO side too! I'm praying it works out. Sometimes we have to step out of our comfort zones! Sounds like your dh would like to have you along!

Congrats on the new computer Annie!!

Narnia - we're getting that same cold front! It was beautiful here yesterday, but I didn't feel up to going to the park ! Neat about your blessing shooting hoops! I'm with your dh - I couldn't do that now!!

I was feeling good enough last night to go to small group, but then in the middle of the night (really 3:30 this morning) I started coughing. I got up & took medicine but it didn't help. I ended up sleeping almost sitting up. I'm going to have dh stop for some Mucinex. We started out in my van last night, but it was running rougher than before he changed the plugs. So, he brought it home & changed to the car. He thinks he may have got a wire on wrong or not tight enough or something! We need to go to the Library, but I'm not sure I'd feel up to it today anyway. Maybe tomorrow. Dd has 2 books on hold, luckily the hold doesn't expire until the 25th.

Donna--we went to Canada five years ago. I know that things have changed since then. I would check and double check to see what documentation you need to get back into the US!

Ds3 is mad at me. I just graded yesterday's math. Long division. All he gave me is answers. No work. None of 'em come out, and he gave me answers with eight digits. Hmm... calculators give answers to eight digits. Coincidence??? I just gave him a page from mathworksheets.com and asked him to do half the page (3 whole problems!!!) and he had a hissy fit.

Donna beat me to it, His, but yeah, the boys could come here if you want to go. I know things have been rocky with your marriage and I can totally understand NOT wanting to go - 6 months ago I wouldn't have wanted to go anywhere with my dh either - but it might be a good opportunity for you guys to work some things out without the distraction of house and kids. Think about it, OK?

Cindy--I'll keep it in mind.

Having a moment here... ds2 whipped a spoon across the room, totally missing his target. Ds1 laughed at him. Then, ds2 explained that he would have hit the target if it would have been a pencil, rather than a spoon. He went into the physics of spoon vs pencil. I mean, I should be upset that he whipped the spoon. But his physics was dead on.

Good morning everyone. It is beautiful and sunny here, but down right cold . Yesterday, the high temp must of been in the morning. I was able to pain and Ds mulched up the leaves, so our yard looks a little cleaner. I STILL have tulips I need to plant. I am wondering if it is too late now??

Okay... with the new computer, I want to limit the time the kids have on it even more (for their recreation use). I signed them up at the library to use their computers, but I don't want them there all the time either. I was thinking 1 hour of reading for 1 hour library computer time?? THis would probably mean that my boys would only be there 1-2 times a week since they are not avid readers. It would also get them reading and give them something more constructive to do during the day then watching McGyver or playing PS2 when their school work is done. What do you think?? I'm just not sure how to work it so that they have to "work" to get this computer time.

My dd is sick today . she was going to start attending a homeschool girl's Bible study today. Maybe next time.

Oh, you mean if they read for an hour they can play on the computer for an hour? That's a good idea.

It has been pouring down rain here today. It feels chilly in the house today.

Annie,
I'm sorry your dd is sick. My cough had been gone for about a week. It is back now. I do not think it was due to being outside since I was out on Tuesday which was a windy chilly day and yesterday was mild.

They do keep the building we dance in rather cold on Wed. and we were there for 2 1/2 hours last night. I wonder if it was that coldness that did it?

Right now the actual temp is 40, but the real feel is 26-due to that wind.

Woooo Hooo! David can finally make his hard and soft "th" sounds! I am so thrilled. He has a lateral lisp so he hasn't been able to make those sounds properly. It was so stressful for him that I rarely tried to work with him, only once in a great while. When today, I told him how to do it, he understood and did it perfectly even when he tried it in words! I am so thrilled! He says it sounds weird to him, but I assured him that it sounded perfect and only sounded weird because he wasn't used to hearing himself doing it the right way. If he gets this good then all he will have wrong with his speech are vowels with Bossy R (ur, ir, or, er,).

These are the sounds that all my children had to work on.

Dd is throwing up, she is 13... you'd think she could make it to the bathroom. I gave her a bucket though, and I saw her cleaning some things up in her room because I think she missed a little with that! I can not clean up the pukies without getting sick myself, so she is on her own. I sure no one else gets this, especially with Thanksgiving right around the corner.

I had to do eye drops in Noah's eye while he was sleeping today. I also patched his good eye in hopes he won't realize it is there when he wakes up. I've tried that before and it didn't work. But maybe now that he has Atropine in his eye (dialation drop that causes him not see as well), maybe he won't realize the patch is on. He is being SOOOO good with eye drops, but he scrunches his eyes and then I can't get them open long enough to get them in. He will come and lie down and let me "hold" him down though, so that is good, now I just need to figure out how to keep his eye open more relaxed.

well.... he just woke up and took his patch off immediately!!

Annnie - praying your dd feels better & no one else gets it.

Congrats to David on getting those soft Ths! I bet it does sound weird to him!

I'm feeling worse now than I did earlier today. My ears are plugged up & I just feel yucky! I may take a nap after lunch.
