Sharon, if your DH was intimate with anyone beside you then I wouldn't go to 3 year intervals just yet. HPV can take awhile to become evident via paps and you don't want to miss it if it does happen and since there is no test for men... I would give it another couple years before going the 3 year "plan".

3 yrs between cervical smears is standard here in the UK from 25-49, then it's every 5 years till you're 65. I'm not saying that's necessarily often enough (though I am so glad I'm at the 5yr point now), just saying how it is here.

I was told 3 years until 35 after 3 consecutive clears. I just had one in June, I'll ask in the spring what they are doing (I'm 35 now) from 35-40. Kris

My doctor also warned me that my first period may be a pretty bad one. Is that your experience?

The first period can be heavy, as everything starts up again and clunks into gear - but as I recall, neither of my two first ones were bad at all.

I had lighter periods for a few months and then they worked there way back up to normal for me. I got mine back at 3 months post partum even with full time nursing.

Mine wasn't bad, but I'm used to pretty horrific periods.

I got mine back pretty early, 2 months or so. The first couple were very heavy, but short and almost no cramps. They are still (well through May anyway!) heavy but back to regular length (3-4 days so still not bad) and cramps. Kris

my first period with all 5 of mine have been....easy. Easier than normal. It may be different following a c-section,but I don't remember my sil saying anything about hers being awful....in fact...I think hers was easier than normal as well...... So I guess the thing is...you'll just have to wait and see what it is like for you....I think everyone is different.

Well, since I had endometriosis and fibriods going into the pregnancy but don't have signs of them now, I'm not sure what to expect. I thought I was getting my period early morning yesterday because I felt like I was going to throw up and my stomach hurt. Turned out to be a nasty stomach bug of some sort. Fever finally went away this morning, but still feeling blah. Gonna let my husband shovel the walk from the Blizzard yesterday/this morning.

OTOH, I had recurrent endometriosis and my first pp period was always awful. You just won't know until it happens, I think.

Before I was pregnant, I needed 6 1/2 to 7 1/2 hours of sleep to be ideal. Of course I needed more sleep during the pregnancy and sleep gets all mixed up when the baby is here. But, little man is sleeping 6-8 hours a night which means I am sleeping what should be my normal amount. But I'm still always tired. Is that normal 11 weeks after giving birth? My iron was tested and is fine, so that is not the issue. Oh...and I did get my first period and nothing has changed from before. I'm getting the same exact symptoms, amount of bleeding, cramping...all of it. I was kinds bummed it didn't get better.

Sharon, I think it is very normal to be tired even when getting that kind of sleep. Newborns just sort of wear you out. You have to be more mentally and physically alert all the time. Also, you are still recovering from your csection, even if you don't feel it. It all just takes awhile. I get great sleep, most nights now, but my days still wear me out. It is just part of being a momma.

Welcome to mommylife! It will be like this for years. You get the sleep you're supposed to need and you're still tired. It may get better and at times it will get worse. You are recovering in a lot of ways still and your senses are heightened to pick up on D's needs even when you are sleeping.

Is that normal 11 weeks after giving birth? My iron was tested and is fine, so that is not the issue. Sharon, yes it is normal to be more tired - apart from anything else, as Karen said, you're still healing from your C-section, plus catching up on all the sleep you didn't get when Derrek was first born and the first few weeks thereafter. One thing though, when they did your iron test, did they test your thyroid at all as well? Thyroids take a bashing during pregnancy (that's why it swells towards the end of pregnancy, I don't know if you noticed your neck swelling at all), but then they usually recover during the next couple of months or so. But sometimes they don't. Having my second child triggered my thyroid to start failing (I was diagnosed when my dd was about 4-5 months old). So if you're at all concerned, and your thyroid levels weren't checked before, it might be an idea to ask your doctor if you can have a thyroid function test. Is there any history of thyroid problems in the family?

Ok. I just found it weird and wanted to ask. Manda...no thyroid issues and none that are in my family that I know of.

Man, you ladies were sooooooooooooo right about disturbed sleep. I didn't even realize it until last night. I was feeling weird and since Aunt Flo has arrived, I took some Ibuprofen PM. And, I think it is one of the first nights I have fully, really, soundly slept through the night. I didn't feel like I needed those extra couple of hours of sleep like I normally do. I don't intend to take night time pain pills every night, but it is nice to know my body is actually being normal. And the sleep issue has gotten better too. Derrek is sleeping 8-9 hours a night now with a couple of naps during the day. I think I'm also feeling a bit more confident in this mothering role. So, new question....how long can it take for a woman's hips and lower back and such get aligned and back to normal? Is that one of those things that can take almost a year? I find my pelvic bones and hips and lower back are still WAY out of whack and I only gained 5lbs from the beginning to the end of of the pregnancy.
