Snowy and icy here this morning. So spring isn't quite here yet.

I just buy used ones. Got them for $50, and will last me for probably 50 to 60K.

I wouldn't dare do used. Other than the liability and being illegal for "commercial use", I drive 100 to 200 miles a day and can't take the risk of break downs. The only used tires around here are near bald and all the illegals buy them. Just have to bite the bullet and get back to it, billing out work and keep on moving. It just seems that all the BIG bills hit right at the first of the year at the same time... insurance, E&O, dues, fees, Continuing Ed, licenses, taxes, repairs, etc. all in Jan and Feb. Spent nearly 12 grand this month so we can stay in biz for another year, to do it all again in '11.

On average I drive about 120 miles each business day, but mine is not "commercial". I have yet to have a problem with them.

No, I have not bought truck tires lately. But the pickup's tires have over 60k on them and need replaced.

My shift starts at 6:30 am. Only in the longest days of the year is it just starting to get light out at that time of day. This time of year, it's still very dark. This morning, I was on the interstate in the center lane of traffic when the car ahead of me hit his brakes hard. I followed his reaction, knowing that something must going on. An instant later, the headlights reveal four large hay bales dumped across the highway. The bales were still intact. Thankfully, I was travelling at a safe distance from the car ahead of me. We were both able to maneuver around the hey bales while still braking hard.

I'm thinkin' that God made the possums just the right speed - it's us that are always in a hurry. I'm trying to figure out why so many manly-man pick-up trucks hurry to get right on my bumper, but then won't pass me. If ya ain't going to pass, then don't tailgate!! The other thing I'm trying to figure out is why people mock climate change when it snows in the south but are strangely silent when it's 40 degrees in northern Indiana in the middle of winter. Of course the real issue about climate change is what is the church's response to it? We had a speaker from Burkino Faso tell us about the church there getting people to plant trees, grasses, etc. to slow down the encroachment of the desert while they build irrigation, etc. In the west, we simply mock it and go about idling our behemoth vehicles so it won't be cold inside when we come back out of the store. Seems goofy to me! (I should mention that I drive a sissy 4 banger Saturn, but hey, it was given to us.)

If you are on a 2 lane road, i'll keep off your rear, as long as you go at least the minimum speed. If you are on a multi-lane road, or highway, and you are on the far right lane, as long as you go at least the minimum speed. If you are on the far left lane, going below minimum speed limit, on the cell phone, do not have your flashers on I will be on your rear for 10 seconds. thereafter I will pass you. quote:

I think most people do not mock climate change. That happens. What most people mock is man-made global warming (anthropomorphic global warming). Lest we forget it was called global warming till quite recently (of course not in the 70s, when it was called global ice age. ) quote:
Of course the real issue about climate change is what is the church's response to it? Eh? Presumes that you as a man can do something about the climate change. Talk about serious hubris. We are to be good custodians of the planet, but not slaves to it. Too many cooks in the kitchen, the whole thing is a mess.

Regarding how fast to drive, our roads are marked with speed limits, not speed minimums. I consider the minimum speed to go is the speed limit except for multi-lane highways. There, I keep up with the traffic. (As one who use to work for a company that investigated fatal traffic accidents, I learned a lot about speed.) I don't care if someone wants to go above the speed limit, just don't expect me to speed up. They can pass me or back off. I need to re-phrase the last question: What is the church's response to the people who are being adversely affected by climate change (this was NASA' phrase back in the 1980s)? Though I'm a pretty dim light bulb, I'm not so naive to think that the church could do anything about nature, even if we were to be good stewards of the earth.

Hmmm... I thought every state had a minimum required speed on higher speed roads, although not necessarily posted. I guess not. The church has as much respond to the people who are being adversely affected by climate change, as any others. If that is your pet rally call, by all means use it. I think it is a mistake, and scripturally wrong to look at the root cause of misery in such fashion, but I am not an expert on this. Using 'climate change' as the reason to help people or any other cause célèbre is a mistake and are worth less than dirty rags (Isaiah 64:6). Dare I say it is even more sinister? But, we are in a garage. Pass me that plier. quote:

Interstate highways in the US typically have a minimum speed limit. It used to be that 45mph was commonly the minimum . Today the minimum is often 55mph. Most other unlimited access highways have no minimum speed limit.

Discussions of climate change bring to mind this verse: "As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease." Genesis 8:22

Genesis 8:22 Good one. One volcano eruption spews out more gases than all automobiles in the world for 100 years. Not saying we shouldn't develop and improve our technology, but am saying we shouldn't turn it into a religion because it's the popular stance in a political endeavor. Why haven't alternative energy become more popular and plentiful?? Simple answer... it cost to much to produce and is more polluting than current conventional sources!
