We each have our own email addresses, and we know the passwords. We pretty much have the same password for many of our things, except for a couple of passwords I haven't changed.

Yeah... I have both sort of but my wife has mine connected to her facebook account while I had to start a gmail account... go figure... Lol! I did the same thing. Except our main e-mail is a g-mail account. We moved so many times in the last several years we finally decided to make gmail our main e-mail and route it to whatever ISP we happened to have at the time. I set my Facebook up with it, and he had to use his "other" gmail address--the one he set up for the business he started and quit a few years back. I also have another gmail account with just my name that I very rarely use, a yahoo account that I use to direct junk e-mail to (and my husband had one, too), and a student account at my school. My husband had a school account when he was in school and our login names are the same (First initial and last name). My kids all have gmail addresses, too. I think some of them have more than one--they got into this thing last April Fool's Day where they'd make fake e-mail accounts and try to trick their friends. One of them made a fake address with the name of their co-op art teacher and sent an e-mail to her friends saying that for the next class they each needed to bring a paper bag, a rubber chicken, and a wig. As for passwords, I know most of them, but some I have forgotten.

We have always had a joint account, I would never want us to have personal ones, but infidelity plays a role in our decision.

None of these options fit. My husband and I have separate facebook & email. I am on email and facebook a lot, and he is not. I also have very different friends then him, so my friends would not want to contact me through him. I am also looking for a job, so I would want to get these emails quickly. I would also want the email in my name because of that. My husband probably knows my password because I have the same for everything. I don't think he would go on my email without me there, even though I don't care. I think I know his password, but I only go on when he asks me to look at something. People send emails to both of us when they want us both to know.

We have our own email accounts...plus we have a family account....lol He can access my email...and I could access his. He also has a work account.... Our two oldest children have their own emails (we don't let them get their own email until they are 15..and then we must have the passwords....)

My kids have gmail as a concession since they can't have Facebook yet. They have a couple of contacts--their best friends, and my little brother and sister, and they do gmail chat on that with each other. They leave it up all the time and I check on it now and then.

We have separate. He has a personal account, and one for his company. I have 3, one for my main account, one for junk to go to, and a work email. We know each others' passwords, other than my work email, I keep that one private.

We let each other know our passwords for two reasons: one, we have both been burned by our spouses looking for love on the internet and two, just in case we need to check something on the others...say if one has a medical emergancy for instance, the other can check the mail.

We have two email accounts which are technically joint, but my dh only uses one of those (I use both), the other is just set up in both our names because it seems more appropriate to us to have it that way.

We tried to share an account once. It failed miserably. She gets a lot of junk (jokes, stuff that's supposed to be funny, weird pictures, glittery angels and pretty flowers) and I get serious stuff like football, baseball, basketball and hunting and fishing stuff. My password is scratched into the desktop and my wife's is some sort of mathematical algorithm juxtaposed with intermittent random characters and numbers.

I voted that we only have accounts at work. Actually, I have an account through work, and one account used for online purchases, etc. He doesn't have an account, because he's not that interested in email or internet. When we had internet at home, we shared an account, but I was the only one who checked it.

Our family account is for the whole family...particularly those members of our family who are not yet old enough to have their own email accounts. The main reason we have passwords to each other's email is the issue someone else mentioned of if one of us is sick etc. I can't say I've even logged into my hubby's email...lol....I know he has mine...because I asked him too because there was an important email I was waiting on and I was in the middle of making dinner. Other than that....he never goes into my acct.

We have our own and I know his password and mine is available to him, because he forgets <groan> so I generally leave mine signed in, so if he wants to read it, it is there for his view. CMT

OK... I have a work e-mail that is for the obvious reason but some personal stuff goes there. Then... we registered our last name as a .ORG (because dot-com was taken which if you knew my entire last name would be be hilarious...) for that domain I gave my father, uncle and two cousins e-mail accounts (why not? it's free and it's THEIR last name too). In fact, if anyone else with my last name would like a dot-org e-mail PM me. But I digress. DW has her e-mail (and I have the PW) I have my e-mail (and she knows the PW) we have two e-mail we use for the public - one for spammable and one for important (eg the one we use to register for things and one the one we use for on-line bills and ebay etc) Each child has e-mail but it all blind cc's to me because they are young and I'm keeping tabs. But for my personal e-mail... I don't check too much any more because urgent stuff comes via Facebook (hmmmm, how did THAT happen) While this may sound complex, it's better than our paper mail that currently goes three different directions and every few months ends up in our hands... Any suggestions on how to handle e-mail better? I've given up on paper mail and wish I could "E" it all...

I trust my husband and I assume he trusts me. We have our own accounts. I guess if he asked to see it, I would not complain. My children have their own too, but I do check theirs on a regular basis. That is just my responsibility as their parent.

Since I am the system administrator, I create all of the email accounts for the family. I am limited to about 10,000 possibilities, but have "only" set up about 50 or so. However, the system allows each person to set their own pw without me knowing what it is. I can erase/reset it, but I can't see it. My wife has shared her pw with me, and I think she could guess mine if she needed to. At my age, I don't want to die and leave her locked out of everything.

No one has cheated in our marriage and there are no trust issues. It's just easier to have a joint account. And just because a couple shares an e-mail account doesn't mean they don't have other individual account.

And just because a couple shares an e-mail account doesn't mean they don't have other individual account. ok rephrase that, i feel that anyone who is very stern on not allowing for any kind of single e-mail accts, has trust issues. i feel that way because my step-mom refuses to allow my dad to have his own e-mail address... and for some whipped reason... my dad won't sneak and get one (if my wife was like that, i'd probably sneak and get one and only check it at kinkos just to spite her) lol. so SM has trust issues. and obviously alot of more people in that same situation have trust issue. its a high probabilty. judgement or not :P
